Century plant blooms at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden

Chelsea Mahaffey, horticulturalist at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, talks about the century plant that is blooming in Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden's Conservatory in Richmond, Va. Wednesday, January 24, 2018. They have measured the height of the Agave titanota, commonly called the century plant, to 110 inches including the flower. Mahaffey said they believe the plant, which only blooms once, is 30 years old. Once it finishes blooming next month, it will die and possibly grow "pups" that will grow into new plants.
